Santa Clarita has been ranked 21st in the state in retail sales by the recently released 2016 California Retail Survey, which compares retail sales activity for each of California’s 58 counties and 482 cities.

Santa Clarita ranked higher than Beverly Hills, Burbank and Pasadena and is one of only 42 cities with a retail market above $2 billion.

“The strength of our retail market is a key indicator of the strength of our local economy,” said Jason Crawford, Santa Clarita’s economic development manager. “We are proud to be named again as one of the top 25 markets within the state, and to continue to expand our retail and restaurant offerings to match what our residents are requesting.”

The retail survey is designed to provide a comprehensive review of retail sales activity in every county and city in California. In total, the survey reports on the historical sales trends in each of over 500 individual market areas in California, based on sales activity of over 650,000 individual retail outlets.

“We continue to attract top retailers like The Cheesecake Factory, Hobby Lobby, Laemmle Theatres and Saddle Ranch Chop House to join our community,” noted Crawford. “These efforts are a result of the city council’s commitment to building a strong economy, supporting local jobs and making Santa Clarita the place to do business in Los Angeles County.”
