A jury has found a 29-year-old Canyon Country man guilty of four counts of assaulting police officers and two counts of felony child abuse stemming from a domestic violence call sheriff’s deputies responded to in January, the prosecutor in the case told The Signal Monday.
Calvin Charles Lynch appeared Monday morning in San Fernando Superior Court as the eight men and four women on the jury resumed their deliberations.
The jury found Lynch not guilty of two counts of false imprisonment of a hostage pertaining to allegations that involved his six-year-old son and three-year-old daughter, said Garrett Dameron, deputy district attorney for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office.
Jurors also found the allegation that great bodily injury was inflicted on Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Deputy Christopher Germansen to be true, Dameron said.
They also found to be true the allegation Lynch personally used a knife during the crime.
Lynch, who was convicted of assaulting a peace officer in 2003, now faces the possibility of 27 years in prison, said Dameron who handles cases for the DA’s Crimes Against Police Officers unit.
He is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 16.
During the week-long trial, jurors heard testimony of how deputies responded to a domestic call placed by Lynch’s wife on Jan. 21, 2016.
When deputies arrived at the couple’s apartment, they found a man barricaded inside a bedroom armed with a butcher knife with his two children, jurors heard last week.
Deputies convinced him to put down the knife and then rushed the bedroom and tried to free the children from their father. A physical altercation ensued between Lynch and Germansen who was seriously injured.
