Hold onto your wallet Californians, gas prices are on the rise.

The average gasoline price in Los Angeles County rose 5.7 cents per gallon in the past week, according to a report from GasBuddy.

Prices in Los Angeles County averaged $2.84 per gallon Monday after GasBuddy’s daily survey of 2,135 gas outlets in Los Angeles.  This is 11.1 cents per gallon higher than prices one month ago.

“Gasoline prices quickly reacted to news last week that OPEC had come to a decision regarding cutting back oil production,” said Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst for GasBuddy in a press release.

DeHaan said oil prices jumped and caused gas prices to jump as well.

Despite the recent increase in prices, gas prices as not as high as they were last year or even five years ago.

Prices are 22.4 cents per gallon lower, however, than they were Oct. 3, 2015 and 99 cents per gallon lower than they were Oct. 3, 2011.

The increase, however, is larger than the national average, which increased by 1.5 cents per gallon during the last week and stands at $2.22 per gallon.
