A Candlelight vigil has been scheduled for Sunday in honor of Maria Acevedo who died this week as a result of a stabbing, a woman at Acevedo’s family-run restaurant told The Signal Friday.

“The vigil is on Sunday at 6 p.m.,” said a woman reached at the Margaritas Mexican Grill which Acevedo’s family has operated for years on Valencia Boulevard.

It’s expected to take place in Central Park, according to a post on the restaurant’s Facebook page.

“We are planning a candle light vigil for all to attend who were touched by Maria’s life.  Our Maria, loved her walks at Central Park,” the post reads. “It only seems fit to have it there.”

Acevedo’s body was found by her husband Monday inside their home.

Her son, Jessie Lucatero, 24, was charged with murder Wednesday for allegedly stabbing her to death inside their Saugus home, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office spokesman Ricardo Santiago said.

Lucatero was arrested on Monday, four hours after the stabbing, initially as a person of interest, and then as the man suspected of murdering his mother inside the family home on the 19500 block of Castille Lane, prosecutors said.

If convicted as charged, Lucatero faces a possible maximum sentence of 26 years to life in state prison. The requested bail is more than $2 million.
