A small brush fire near the dam at Castaic Lake prompted a swift response by firefighters Monday afternoon, snuffing out the fire quickly, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.

The small “spot fire” was reported about 4:20 p.m. Monday near Castaic Dam on the Castaic Lake Dam Access Road near Lake Hughes Road, he said.

Several firefighting units including water-dumping aircraft, bulldozers and pumpers were dispatched to the scene with additional units called out within five minutes of the initially call.

By 4:33 p.m., however, the additional units were called off and the fire was reported out.

“It’s out.  It was a small brush fire,” a Fire Department spokesman told The Signal.
