A Los Angeles man arrested last month on suspicion of annoying or molesting a child at the Valencia Library has been sentenced to 45 days in Los Angeles County jail after he pleaded no contest to one count of child molesting.
Christopher Cline, who turns 26 next week, appeared Tuesday in San Fernando Superior Court where he entered a plea of no contest “to the one charged count of Child Molesting,” spokesman Ricardo Santiago for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said today.
“He was sentenced to three years summary probation, 45 days in county jail, 52 counseling sessions – at a rate of one per week – and was ordered to stay away from all three branches of the Santa Clarita Public Libraries,” he said.
As a result of the conviction, Cline is subject to the lifetime requirement to register as a sex offender pursuant to California’s Penal Code section §290.
Cline was arrested by deputies of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on Sept. 19 after he allegedly approached a 14-year-old girl using a computer at the Valencia Library, Lt. Brenda Cambra told The Signal last month.
“The suspect approached her and started talking to her,” Cambra said at the time of the arrest. “He then gave her a piece of paper with a social media account and a phone number and told her to call him.
“The victim felt very uncomfortable and reported the incident. Deputies responded and based on the information provided, the suspect was arrested for Annoy or Molest Child,” she said.
