A memorial service planned Thursday in Lancaster for slain LASD Sergeant Steve Owen is expected to be attended by many law enforcement well-wishers.

Owen was shot and killed in the line of duty last week while responding to reports of a residential burglary.

A memorial in his honor has been arranged by the Owen family and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

And, although the memorial is not open to the general public due to “capacity concerns,” members of all law enforcement agencies and all first responders are invited, according to a news release issued by the LASD Wednesday.

Road closures and possible traffic delays are expected to occur between 6:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. Thursday as the memorial unfolds.

LASD officials are advising anyone in the area at the time of the memorial to allow ample travel time, due to an expected large volume of traffic and attendees.

The memorial’s procession is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. with streets along the procession route expected to be closed.

Intermittent or full street closures should be expected on any all the below listed Lancaster area streets, during the indicated times:

•Southbound Sierra Highway to East Avenue L

•Eastbound East Avenue L to 30th Street East

•Northbound 30th Street East to East Avenue J

•Eastbound East Avenue J to 40th Street East

•Northbound 40th Street East to East Lancaster Boulevard

East Lancaster Boulevard, between 40th Street East and 50th Street East will also be impacted.
