Voting is one of the most basic privileges we have as citizens of the United States. Some may think that their single vote doesn’t matter, but time and again a few votes have determined the outcome of a close election. By voting, you are able to express your opinions and have an important relevance in both the local and national elections.

This year, for the first time, the City’s General Municipal Election will be consolidated with the Los Angeles County General Election and will be held on Tuesday, November 8.

The Santa Clarita City Council is comprised of five members.  The terms are staggered so that in some years there are three seats up for election and in some years there are two seats. This year, on Tuesday, November 8, registered voters will have the opportunity to elect two City of Santa Clarita Councilmembers for a term of four years each.

VoteSantaClarita.com provides you with everything you need to know about the upcoming election and is up and running right now. As I speak to residents, I know there are many questions about the process and I encourage you to take a look at the City’s website, where you can find answers regarding the City election.

As a reminder, if you are not registered to vote, you must do so before October 24, in order to have your voice heard in the November 2016 election. That date is fast approaching and VoteSantaClarita.com provides visitors with an easy-to-follow link with all of the information needed to become a registered voter.

Exercising your right to vote is extremely important.  If you are like me, going to the polls on Election Day is very special. We all have busy schedules, so to make things easier for everyone, there is a helpful link on VoteSantaClarita.com that provides you with your designated polling place. Simply enter your address and it will pull up the location where you can cast your ballot. All polling locations are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on November 8.

Another option you have is to vote by mail.  You may drop off your Vote by Mail ballot (if you don’t wish to put it in the mail) to the City Clerk’s Office (suite 120) at City Hall where there is a secure drop box.   This is only for Vote by Mail ballots and they must be received by November 7. Santa Clarita City Hall is open Monday-Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Friday from

8 a.m. to 5 p.m. City Hall is located at 23920 Valencia Boulevard.

For any voting-related questions you have, the VoteSantaClarita.com website is user-friendly and full of great information. You can also call the City of Santa Clarita at 661-259-CITY (2489).

Whether you cast your ballot at the polls on Election Day or by mail, please join me in exercising our right to have a voice in our government and VOTE!
