News release issued by the City of Santa Clarita:

The City of Santa Clarita was awarded the designation of Runner Friendly Community by the Road Runners Club of America for the fall of 2016.

To obtain this designation, the City was evaluated in three primary categories: community infrastructure, community support and local government support.

The Road Runners Club of America seeks to celebrate communities that offer runners an experience that is safe, affordable, accessible and enjoyable. They also offer incentive for cities to become Runner Friendly Communities and accountability to retain the title.

“Our miles of trails and paseos add to the excellent quality of life our residents experience here in Santa Clarita,” said Mayor Bob Kellar.  “We are honored to be recognized with this acknowledgment.”

Santa Clarita is proud to receive this title and annually hosts running events such as the Wings for Life World Run, which takes place in the spring, and the Santa Clarita Marathon, which is taking place on Nov.r 6, 2016.
