Last week, The Master’s University volleyball, soccer, and cross country programs posted impressive results over a number of quality opponent. This week, TMU golf finishes its fall slate while men’s basketball gears up for its 2016-17 campaign…

Volleyball

The Master’s University volleyball team beat Arizona Christian University in three sets (25-23, 25-20, 25-10) last Thursday in Phoenix, AZ. Then, on Saturday, TMU beat the San Diego Christian College Hawks in three sets (25-17, 25-12, 25-23) in El Cajon.

With the two victories, TMU’s record improved to 18-9 and 10-2 in Golden State Athletic Conference play.

Based on last week’s results in which she tallied 61 total assists and 20 digs, Kayla Sims has been named the GSAC’s Setter of the Week. This is the fourth time this season Sims has earned this honor.

This week, Sims and the Mustangs take on Vanguard University tonight on Bross Court, and then travel to Biola University on Saturday for a match against the 19th-ranked Eagles. Both matches start at 7 p.m.

Men’s Soccer

Last week, The Master’s University men’s soccer team beat William Jessup University 2-1 on Thursday, then silenced No. 20 Menlo College 3-0 on Saturday.

After scoring three goals on the week for the Mustangs (two against William Jessup and one against Menlo), TMU’s Humphrey Mahowa was named the GSAC’s Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week. This is the second time this season that Mahowa has earned this honor.

Tomorrow, Mahowa and the Mustangs will take on Westmont College at 3 p.m. in TMU’s final regular-season home match of the year. On Saturday at 3 p.m., the Mustangs will close their regular-season schedule at Vanguard University.

Women’s Soccer

Last Thursday, TMU beat William Jessup University 3-0, but fell to Menlo College in a 0-2 loss on Saturday.

Last week’s results brings TMU’s 2016 record to 8-5-3 and 4-3-1 in GSAC play.

Today, the Mustangs will compete in their final regular-season home match when they host No. 11 Westmont College (14-2-1, 7-2 GSAC) at 3 p.m. on Reese Field. On Saturday, TMU closes its regular-season schedule with a 12:30 p.m. against Vanguard University in Costa Mesa.

Cross Country

Last Friday, The Master’s University men’s cross country team earned a second-place finish at the Titan Invitational 8k after clocking a collective team time of two hours, seven minutes and 14.54. seconds.

Leading the way for the 11th-ranked Mustangs was Andrew Orona, who finished eighth out of 123 runners in the 8k with a final time of 25:11.

TMU’s women’s cross country team also earned a second-place finish at the Titan Invitational after clocking a collective team time of 1:32:29.78.

Morgan Pedrick led the 5th-ranked Mustangs by placing sixth out of a field of 90 runners in the 5k with a final time of 17:54.

Both teams now look to November 5 when they will compete at the 2016 GSAC Championships, hosted by William Jessup University, in Rocklin. Notably, TMU’s men’s team looks to secure its seventh-straight conference title.

Golf

After two rounds at the CSUSM Fall Classic, The Master’s University men’s golf team sits in fifth-place out of a field of 17 teams with a collective score of 608 (308-300).

TMU’s Robert Penalber finished the second round tied for fifth after carding a collective score of 146 (73-73). Close behind was Joseph Downey who finished tied for 10th at 149 (76-73).

Today, the 19th-ranked Mustangs will finish their time at the two-day tournament.

Men’s Basketball

This week, The Master’s University men’s basketball team will compete in a pair of exhibitions. On Thursday, the Mustangs will take on Azusa Pacific University at 8 p.m. on Bross Court. Then, on Saturday, TMU will travel to Cedar City, Utah and play Southern Utah at 5:30 p.m.
