Members of the Sulphur Springs Union School District Governing Board will hear reports on the district’s solar project, transportation department and business software updates during its regular meeting Wednesday.

Transportation Report

In the 2015-2016 school year, the Sulphur Springs District utilized 23 buses, two transport vans and one mechanic transport vehicle to help move an average of 646 students daily at 162 bus stops, according to the agenda item.

Bus drivers in the district are required to hold a Class B Commercial Driver’s License and School Bus Driver Certificate from CHP (DL45), and have Red Cross First Aid Certification and medical clearance.  They are also subject to random screenings and required to complete 10 classroom in-service hours per year and a CHP renewal every five years.

Before transporting students, bus drivers complete a pre-trip inspection as well as Preventative Maintenance Inspections (PMIs) every 45 days or 3,000 miles.

During 2015-2016, CHP performed 31 bus inspections one terminal inspection that resulted in zero violations, the report read.

Solar Project Report

Representatives from PFMG Solar will also provide updates to the board on the district’s solar project including a summary of the system installed, solar usage, solar savings and utility tariffs.

Solar panels were installed at 10 sites in the district and are expected to offset an average of 75 percent of the district’s total electricity usage, according to the agenda item.

In five years this will create energy savings of $320,000 to $400,000, and in 25 years it will create energy savings of $6,040,000 to $7,470,000, according to PFMG.

Business Software

Paul Landry, project director for Los Angeles County Office of Education’s (LACOE) Business Enhancement System Transformation (BEST) project, will present a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to the board about district’s impending software update.

The MOU and funding commitment from the district are necessary for the project to move forward before the project begins vendor negotiations this month.

New software will replace the existing 28-year-old Human Resource System and 17-year-old PeopleSoft Financial System.
