Four people were hurt and at least one of them taken to the hospital this morning in two separate traffic collisions that sent vehicles in each crash down an embankment, an SUV in one crash and a big rig in the other.
The crashes were reported to emergency response officials amid a spate of traffic collisions reported Friday morning as rain fell in and around the Santa Clarita Valley.
One person was injured and taken to the hospital after an SUV northbound on Interstate 5 struck a pole near the northbound Highway 14 connector ramp, shortly before 8:30 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
Paramedics with the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to the solo vehicle crash, Fire Department Inspector Gustavo Medina said.
“This call was for a vehicle then over the side, down an embankment, into a ditch,” he said. “We transported one person to a local area hospital.”
In a separate and unrelated traffic collision that happened shortly after 7:45 a.m., on the northbound lanes of Highway 14 at the Soledad Canyon Road on-ramp, a big rig went over the side and down an embankment, Medina said.
“The big rig was involved in a collision with other vehicles,” he said. “The big rig ended up going down an embankment.”
The crash involved four vehicles, with at least one of the other vehicles crashing into the center median, according to the CHP.
“Three people had minor injuries, all were released,” Medina said, noting none of the injuries people were taken to the hospital.
The two crashes were among several traffic collisions reported to CHP officers Friday morning.
A black Toyota in the southbound lanes of I-5 spun out at the Hasley Canyon Road off-ramp, hitting the center median shortly after 8:15 a.m. No one was hurt in the crash.
And, in a fourth local crash Friday morning, a GMC Sierra pickup truck eastbound on Highway 126 spun out near the southbound lanes of I-5, ending up in the westbound lanes.
Deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station also responded to traffic collisions at 8:15 a.m. Friday morning including a crash on Soledad Canyon Road at Rainbow Glen. No one was report hurt.
