Head-on collision injures three Friday night

At 7:34 p.m. Friday night, Los Angeles County Fire Department and California Highway Patrol responded to a traffic collision on Sierra Highway near Rush Canyon Truck Trail.

Firefighters arrived to find two vehicles, a small white car and a passenger van involved in a head-on collision with 2 people trapped.

Firefighters used the “Jaws of Life” to extricate the victims which took approximately 45 minutes. Two of the patients, a mother and child, were airlifted to Northridge trauma center.

The third patient was transported to a local hospital by ambulance.

The condition of the patients are unknown.

“All appeared to be conscious,” said photographer Rick McClure, who was on scene.

It was unknown if alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash.

Sierra Highway was closed in both directions during the investigation.
