An SUV that became fully engulfed in flames on Interstate 5 just south of Vista Del Lago Friday morning prompted swift response by emergency response crews.

The incident began at 9 a.m. when motorists traveling through the Grapevine reported to the California Highway Patrol that a gold-colored Chevy Suburban SUV was on fire north of Pyramid Lake.

Firefighters with the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to the fire within a couple of minutes of having been reported.

No one was hurt in the incident.

“I suspect the vehicle overheated and caught fire,” CHP Sgt. Perry Haggard told The Signal Friday morning.

Other motorists reported at least five occupants of the SUV, believed to be family members, were seen standing on the right shoulder of the freeway as the vehicle burned.

“There were several people in the car so it was a matter of getting them loaded up and to safety and off the highway,” Haggard said.
