Hundreds shop at Newhall Craft Show

Michelle Gray poses with a "string art" piece at the Fine Craft Show held at Old Orchard Park in Newhall on Sunday. The piece was made by 'Out of the Woods String Art' and was created by embedding nails into a block of wood, then tying strings around those nails to create an image. Those looking for a one-of-a-kind gift this holiday season are in luck, because the City of Santa Clarita’s annual Fine Craft Show is being held at Old Orchard Park this weekend.

“We like to bring together the community and bring local artisans around who hand-make their items and sell their goods,” said Korin Peltier, the show’s Vendor Coordinator.

“The holidays are coming up so its really nice to put something together that all the community members can come to.”

About 40 vendors are open for business at the Newhall event, all offering a variety of hand-crafted goodies ranging from jewelry, paintings, pottery, woodwork and ceramics.

“It’s good for the local artists who make stuff by hand,” said Sharon Murdock, who was with the ‘Forgive Me Not Hand-Crafted Soaps’ booth.

Murdock’s says her soaps are all natural, unlike those you may see at the supermarket.

“I use no artificial fragrance, dyes, fillers or coloring so they’re better for the skin and (you’re) less likely to have allergies,” she said.

Hand crafted soaps are just one of many types of goodies offered at the event, which over 500 people were expected to attend throughout the weekend.

Valencia resident Terri Gates and her daughter Karey Kibbe have made it a yearly tradition to come out to the Craft Show. Gates herself dabbles in crafting.

“Your heart and soul goes in to everything that you work on,” she said.

“(I appreciate) how hard they’ve worked on these things.”

Saturday’s event also saw two food trucks. A cupcake truck, ‘Dreamy Creations’ and Mapuche, which sells Argentinian Food.

The Fine Craft Show will continue Sunday, November 13th, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
