UPDATE: four-acre Castaic fire extinguished

Three fire department helicopters and seven fire engines responded to a brush fire that broke out in Castaic near Ridge Route Road and Pine Crest Place Saturday afternoon.

The blaze burned four acres of brush landscape by 2:02 p.m. near Interstate 5 about a mile south from Warped Paintball Park.

The fire was reported at 1:20 p.m. and all forward progress was stopped by 2:02 p.m.

The fire was completely contained by 2:24 p.m., according to Los Angeles County Fire Department officials.

At the time the fire broke out, winds speeds in the area were recorded at two to three miles per hour.

“They have a full brush fire assignment,” said L.A. County Fire Supervising Dispatcher Cheryl Sims.

“We don’t expect it to spread.”

No structures were threatened by the blaze which was apparently ignited from a vehicle collision.

Five patients were assessed for injuries sustained in the crash. Four people were eventually transported to a hospital.
