“I think if there’s an easy way to help someone out, you should do it,” said Melissa Wright as she waited in front of the Red Cross’s mobile bus to give blood.

Dozens of people like Melissa decided that giving blood was a great way to help out someone in need.

Donators came out to The Sanctuary Church in Newhall on Saturday and Sunday to give what they could.

“I’ve seen it first-hand where (giving blood) comes into play,” Rudy Perez said, a first responder who is involved with law enforcement.

Perez explains that he has seen exactly how giving blood can save someone’s life.

“Christmas is all about giving,”  Perez said. “When you can give the gift of life, it’s one of the best things you can do.”

Brandy Cole, the onsite nurse who was in charge of the drive, admitted to seeing a few more walk-ins because of the holiday season.

“It’s a great thing to know that you are saving lives,” Cole said. “Blood is needed 365 days a year.

“It’s a very simple process, it’s not a hard procedure to go through at all.”

The Sanctuary Church hosts a blood drive through the Red Cross several times a year, but the Red Cross is sure to go out everyday in different locations to collect as much of the life-sustaining fluid as they can.

Cole encourages anyone who is interested in giving blood to visit redcross.org.

“When you can give the gift of life, it’s one of the best things you can do,” Perez said.
