There were some tense moments for a Newhall family this morning when a small fire broke out in their kitchen.

Firefighters were dispatched to reports of a structure fire on the 24000 block of Avenida Balita, near Orchard Village Road, shortly after 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Inspector Richard Licon of the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.

“The first (firefighting) engine reported seeing light smoke coming from a single floor single family dwelling,” he said.

Firefighters discovered it was a cooking fire and quickly put it out within a couple of minutes.

The emergency call was received 8:32 a.m. Firefighters got there in five minutes and within two minutes of having arrived, they extinguished the fire.
