The new home of Santa Clarita’s Fire Station 104 – currently located at 26201 Golden Valley Road but ticketed for demolition to make room for a new sheriff’s station – should be open for business “in early 2019,” a county Fire Department official said Tuesday.

Assistant Fire Chief Gregory Hisel told The Signal that’s the target date for the new facility, which would be located at 26901 Golden Valley Road, near Newhall Ranch Road.

That time frame also provides an estimate on when ground might be broken on the new sheriff’s station – which would replace the current, antiquated facility, built in 1972, on Magic Mountain Parkway.

The sheriff’s station is still in the early planning stages. The City Council only last month OK’d funding for environmental and civil engineering, concept design and geological testing, among other areas. Eventually, it will become a 44,400-square-foot facility with a 4,000-square-foot vehicle maintenance facility and helipad.

Meanwhile, the fire station is a bit further along in development, with the architectural firm Martinez & Associates already drawing up plans, said Carrie Lujan, the city’s new communications manager.

The site, now vacant, is already owned by the county fire department. The new fire facility is estimated to cost around $18 million.

Hisel said a portion of the funding would come from developer fees from other projects in the city. He said specifics for the funding were still being worked on with the county Board of Supervisors.

The chief also said the new facility will initially be manned with the same number of firefighters as the current station – four.

But, he added, the new building will be bigger and able to accommodate as many as seven firefighters, if the city’s growth eventually demands that that many be deployed.

Editor’s Note: The exact cross streets for the planned fire station, to be located at 26901 Golden Valley Road, are Golden Valley Road and Golden Triangle Road.
