Local sheriff’s deputies who removed stolen laptops and cell phones from the backpack of a homeless woman arrested on the weekend would like theft victims to give them a call.

The recovered loot, they say, might belong to you.

Deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station arrested 44-year-old Darlena Woods in the Santa Clara River wash Sunday morning on suspicion of burglary.

“Woods was arrested in the wash near Sierra Highway and Sandy Drive for possession of a controlled substance,” Lt. Brenda Cambra. “During a search of her property, a back pack containing electronic items, such as laptops and cell phones was found.

“The origin of the electronic items is being investigated,” she said.

“Currently, the items do not match anything reported stolen.  If you are a victim of burglary or theft, please report the crime and include serial numbers and item description.”

Cambra, who oversees the sheriff station’s Detective Section,  wants SCV residents to know that items located by deputies cannot be returned  if theft victims are unable to be linked with those items, either through the reporting process or clear identification on the item.

Reports for stolen property, in many cases, can be filed on line at LASD.ORG.

There is a link to” File an Online Police Report” on the left side of the home screen.

If a citizen has already reported the crime but has found that more property was stolen or would like to add a serial number to the file, there is a section to choose “Supplemental Property List” which is used to list additional stolen property.  The citizen would need to provide the police report number.
