There is something to be said about good parenting and bringing your children up right. We as parents want the best for our children in life and what is better than raising a child to be kindhearted and compassionate? It’s raising all three of your children to not only be compassionate and kind but, also selfless and giving. Kudos to Danielle and Scott Petersen of Stevenson Ranch for having done just that with their three incredibly amazing children Coby, Katie and Lexi.

These kids ages 11, 9 and 7 all got together and decided to have a three way birthday party but, in Lieu of birthday gifts they wanted friends and family to donate funds to help find a cure for a local 5 year old boy named Carter (C’Money) Sarkar who has been diagnosed with the fatal disease Sanfilippo Syndrome, which is best described as Alzheimer’s disease in children. The children met in kidsclub at Afterburn Fitness where their parents workout. The Petersen children all agreed that finding a cure for Carter is better than any birthday they gift they could have received.

The party was held at Valencia Lanes who was kind enough to give a discount on the rental fee since it was for a good cause. The more people that learned about what The Petersen children were doing, the more it inspired many in our community to help. Ameci’s Pizza donated 20 percent of their proceeds that day to Carter’s Challenge. Sweet Bean Ice Cream truck waived their rental fee and Kathy Watterson of Remax donated all the ice cream. Owners Tony and Alison Velesco of Afterburn Fitness helped with the cost of the party and helped promote this event. They wanted nothing more than to help both The Sarkar and The Petersen family who are long time members of Afterburn Fitness. It seemed as if The Petersen’s three extraordinarily generous children inspired our town and community to help support Carters Challenge and find a cure to save this little boy’s life.

The Petersen Children are still encouraging everyone to donate and help find a cure for kids like little Carter at www.curesff.org/donate. We could all learn something from The Petersen family. Coby, Katie and Lexi are proof that there is good in this world and at any age you can make a difference in the world.
