A would-be bank robber demanded money from a teller at a bank in Canyon Country Friday afternoon but left before any money was handed over.

The attempted bank robbery happened shortly before 4 p.m. Friday at the Citibank on Soledad Canyon Road just east of Sierra Highway.

“It was an attempted bank robbery,” Lt. James Duran of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station told The Signal. “Nothing was taken.”

No weapon was seen or indicated and no one was hurt, he said.

“Basically, the guy gave the teller a note that said ‘give me the money’ but he left before any money was given,” Duran said.

The suspect was described as a “male, black,” he said, wearing dark clothing, last seen getting into a silver-colored car and driving away.

Deputies set up a perimeter around the area in an attempt to catch the suspect.

“They (deputies) are trying to get a description of the suspect, and of the car and, hopefully, get some video (surveillance) that will give us a license plate,” Duran said.
