An elderly motorist driving north on the southbound lanes of Highway 14 and into oncoming traffic gave a few morning commuters a shock Thursday.

The California Highway Patrol received reports from motorists shortly before 10:30 a.m. Thursday of an elderly woman driving a silver-colored sedan onto southbound lanes of the highway at Via Princessa.

The woman apparently used the off-ramp at Via Princessa as an on-ramp.

Luckily, no traffic collision occurred and, according to accounts received by the CHP, the woman did not travel far on Highway 14.

The wrong way driver stopped the car – facing in the opposite direction to oncoming traffic – in the slow lane, partially blocking the lane next to it.
