The jury began deliberating in earnest Monday morning in the case of a Valencia man accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend and trying to stab two other women to death in Burbank two years ago.
The fate of Cameron Reed Hansen, 31, now rests with the jury.
The Valencia man’s trial began Feb. 21 and wrapped up Friday with closing arguments, a spokeswoman with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office told The Signal Monday morning.
The jury began deliberating Friday but only for about 10 minutes.
Deliberations resumed this morning in Pasadena Superior Court.
According to prosecutors, Hansen went to his ex-girlfriend’s home on March 3, 2015, where he allegedly bit and beat her.
When her mother and her roommate came to her aid, the defendant allegedly stabbed both women multiple times, prosecutors said during a court appearance in April 2015.
Burbank police responded to reports of an assault on the 700 block of Roselli Street on March 3 and found three female victims, two suffering from stab wounds and the third beaten, Burbank Officer Joshua Kendrick said in a news release issued at the time of Hansen’s arrest.
The suspect — later identified as Hansen — fled the scene just prior to the officers’ arrival, he said. He was arrested later the same day.
The three women, ages 67, 41 and 21, were taken to a Burbank-area hospital and listed in critical but stable condition.
Hansen remains in custody at the Pitchess Detention Center’s North County Correctional Facility, with bail set at $2.16 million.
