Homicide detectives are investigating the discovery Tuesday of human remains found in a field near Golden Valley High School.

The body, described as being in the later stages of decomposition, was found shortly after 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sgt. Brian Allen of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station told The Signal.

“The body has been there a long, long, long time,” he said.

Asked about its gender and how long it’s believed the body might have been there, Allen said he did not know.

The body was found south of Robert C. Lee Parkway, southwest of the high school, at the bottom of an embankment in a “dirt field turnaround” area off of Golden Valley Road, Allen said.

Deputies contacted investigators with the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department’s Homicide Bureau, he said.

Detectives were on their way to the Santa Clarita Valley shortly before 3:30 p.m., a bureau spokesman told The Signal.

Investigators with the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Department were also notified of the discovery.

“They reported a death in Santa Clarita,” Kelly Yagerlener said shortly after 3 p.m., noting coroner officials had not yet left for the Santa Clarita Valley.
