The Brittany Foundation brought eight dogs to PetSmart in Stevenson Ranch in hopes of finding them a new home on Saturday.

The Brittany Foundation Sanctuary and Dog Rescue is located in Agua Dulce where they take care of close to 60 dogs—some of which are elderly.

“We have eight dogs here today for adoption,” said Gwen Romani, the Brittany Foundation adoption coordinator. “Our goal is to have these dogs be adopted.”

There are other options for people who want to help but don’t have the resources to take in another pet permanently. For example, people can become foster parents for a dog.

As a foster parent your job is to help care for a dog, take them to shows and try to get the dog a permanent home.

“We always hope for foster failures,” Romani said.  “That is when a foster home falls in love with the dog and ends up keeping the dog.”

The dogs that are at the ranch are all brought from different places.  Some come from boarding facilities, while others come from people who can’t take care of their animal anymore.

“All we want to do is give these dogs a better life and get them into the hands of loving owners,” Romani said.

The Brittany Foundation is a non-profit that relies on the community to help support these dogs.

Melissa Downes, the owner of five rescue pets, went to go buy cat food when she saw a sign for dog adoptions.

“I made a donation because these wonderful people can’t do this on their own,” said Downes. “They need financial help because they are housing the dogs, giving them love and attention and need help paying for food and vet bills.”

This event happens the third Saturday of every month at the Stevenson Ranch PetSmart at 24965 Pico Canyon Road.
