This summer, three instructional leaders from the Newhall School District (NSD) are planning to attend a three-day leadership institute in Seattle, according to the Newhall School District Governing Board’s agenda for Tuesday’s meeting.
During the Center for Educational Leadership Summer Institute, participants will hear success stories from other districts, learn how organizations improve performance system-wide and collaborate with each other to develop new ideas and strategies.
“The work of instructional leaders is to ensure that every student receives the highest quality instruction each day,” the agenda item read. “Doing so requires that instructional leaders lead for the improvement of the quality of teaching and for the improvement of student learning.”
Participants will also study how to use professional learning as means for equitable student achievement, to use problems of student learning to drive improvement and how to have conversations across districts and schools to inspire improvement.
The Newhall School District plans on sending Superintendent Paul Cordeiro, Assistant Superintendent of Business Services Ronna Wolcott and Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources Alexis Yannich to the institute.
During the meeting, governing board members will consider approving the funds to support the attendance, lodging, airfare, car, lunch and dinner fees of the trip totaling $6,264.
Members of the governing board are also expected to review the district’s Measure E Bond Fund Performance Audit report for the fiscal year ended in June 30, 2016.
According to the agenda item, the performance audit conducted by Moss-Adams LLP found that the bond proceeds were spent only on projects listed with the 2011 Measure E bonds.
Governing Board members are also expected to consider a claim for damages dated March 6 for an undisclosed incident that occurred Feb. 17, 2017.
According to the agenda item, Diego Javier submitted a claim for damages of $3,946.76 and G. Nava Gonzales submitted for damages of $3,964.37.
The claims were filed with the district March 6. District staff sent the claims to the board in order to request “direction regarding the claim.”
