Firefighters extinguished an apartment house fire on Dune Lane late Monday afternoon but despite the speedy “knockdown,” the two-story dwelling and a garage were gutted.

The fire broke out shortly after 6 p.m. Monday on the 28900 block of Dune Lane, near the end of a cul-de-sac, east of Oak Springs Canyon Road in the Sand Canyon area.

By 6:30 p.m., the fire was reported by fire officials to be out.

Firefighters, upon arrival, reported seeing smoke and flames coming from an apartment building which backs on to the Oak Springs Canyon Park.

“We have a two-story multi-family dwelling with smoke and fire showing,” a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Fire Department told The Signal Monday.

Additional firefighting units were dispatched shortly after 6:20 p.m.

Heavy black smoke was seen from Golden Valley Road at one point.

By 6:30 p.m., two dozen firefighters arriving in at least four firetrucks joined a half a dozen other Fire Department vehicles on the dead end street.

The amassed firefighting team extinguished the fire at 6:26, a Fire Department spokesman said.

Asked if there were any injuries, he said: “Negative.”

The fire, quickly dubbed The Dune Incident, gutted a garage and its contents.
