The best hitting team in College of the Canyons softball coach John Wissmath’s 10 seasons continued to rattle off hits and runs and routs Tuesday.
The Cougars swept a home double-header against Glendale, 19-3 and 11-2, on the strength of 29 total hits.
“Our girls can swing it,” Wissmath said. “We have some bats. It’s the best ever since I’ve been there. Our entire lineup is pretty lethal.”

Three different Cougars had three hits each in the opener, while four more players had two hits apiece.
The Cougars (20-5-1 overall, 7-2 in Western State Conference, East) scored four in the first inning, two in the second, eight in the third and five in the fourth, ending the game after five innings.
Micayla Aguilar, a Canyon High graduate, went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a home run and seven RBIs.
She’s one of six Cougar starters batting at least .400 on the season.
“They’re all crushing the ball, shoot. It’s fun to watch them, especially when they get on a roll,” said Wissmath, whose team sits in second place in the WSC East, two losses behind Antelope Valley College.
“(Third place) Citrus, Antelope Valley and us, we’re going to be battling,” Wissmath added. “That’s when those runs come in handy.”
All the more because the Cougars’ pitching is solid but not necessarily dominant.
Sarah Wilson pitched 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief in Tuesday’s opener, while Katie Taix held Glendale (6-14, 2-5) to two runs over four innings for the win in the nightcap.
There was plenty of room for error, as the Cougars broke open the second game with a six-run fifth inning.
Sienna Vannoy, a Hart High graduate, finished 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs in the second game, while Aguilar added two more RBIs.
Tuesday marked the 12th and 13th times this season that Canyons has scored double-digit runs in a game.
The Cougars have won seven of their last eight. They’ll play Allan Hancock on the road Thursday.
They’ll hope to keep stinging the ball.
“Up and down our lineup, all of them, they’re not afraid to swing it,” Wissmath said.
