Netflix has announced a second season of the original series “Santa Clarita Diet,” starring Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant. Production on the second season will begin this summer.

TheĀ first ten episodes of the original comedy, named for and filmed in Santa Clarita, premiered worldwide on Netflix on Feb. 3. The dark comedy is about the complications that arise when Barrymore becomes a zombie and must eat people to survive.

The show represents a new stage of growth for the streaming service, as ā€œone of the first shows to get produced in-house by Netflix,ā€ location manager Brooks Bonstin told The Signal last September.

Season one was filmed last summer at Santa Clarita StudiosĀ and on location around town.

The city of Santa Clarita’s Film Office estimates some 6,000 people in the film industry live in Santa Clarita and those salaries go right back into the community.

Showrunner Victor Fresco, Barrymore, Olyphant, Aaron Kaplan, Tracy Katsky, Chris Miller and Ember Truesdell are executive producers on the series. Nancy Juvonen is a producer.
