Santa Clarita high school artists are invited to submit their original work to the Congressional Art Competition for the chance to have their work on display in the U.S. Capitol.

Congressman Steve Knight invites all public, private and home school students who live in the 25th congressional district to compete in the national contest.

“The Congressional Art Competition is a great opportunity for students in our community to showcase their artistic talent,” Knight said in a statement. “I look forward to seeing the outstanding pieces that our high schoolers submit this year.”

Students have until April 26 at 5 p.m. to submit their artwork alongside their student release form, and the winner will be announced on May 2.

The winning art piece will be featured for a full year in Washington D.C. Whoever wins the competition will be flown for free to the unveiling ceremony this summer.

Additionally, Knight’s office has offered to arrange for the winner to go on a variety of tours and meet with Knight in D.C.

Paintings, drawings, collages, prints, mixed media, computer-generated art and photographs are all accepted mediums.

Artwork must be two-dimensional and should be sent to Knight’s office unframed. The piece should not exceed 26 inches high, 26 inches wide and 4 inches deep and cannot exceed 15 pounds.

Art cannot be politically controversial, sensational or gruesome.

Contestants must live in the 25th district and be a U.S. citizen or a permanent legal resident.

The annual contest is sponsored by the Members of the U.S. House of Representatives. The competition began in 1982 and over 650,000 students have participated since.

Santa Clarita students can drop off their art at Knight’s local office at 26415 Carl Boyer Drive, Suite 220.

For more information, visit Knight’s website or call (202) 225-1956.
