What is Denim Day?

The Denim Day campaign began in 1998, triggered by an Italian court’s decision to overturn a rape conviction, citing that since the victim wore tight jeans, she must have helped her rapist remove them, which implied consent. In response, the women of the Italian Parliament came to work the following day wearing denim in solidarity with the victim. Peace Over Violence created the Denim Day campaign soon after, asking people to wear jeans in an effort to visibly boost rape prevention awareness and to dismantle destructive attitudes on sexual assault. See more on how you can get involved on the Denim Day website!
