Local sheriff’s deputies chased young burglary suspects into the Santa Clara River wash near Jakes Way Thursday, arresting at least three suspects at gunpoint shortly after 12:30 p.m.

No shots were fired and no one was reported hurt.

Deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station responded to reports received from a resident on Mount Stephen Avenue, on the north side of the river, who allegedly spotted people breaking into a home.

“We had an informant say he saw people breaking into a residence on 17000 block of Mount Stephen Avenue,” Lt. Bryan Aguilera told The Signal.

About the same time as receiving the informant’s call, deputies responded to a residential burglary alarm also on Mount Stephen Avenue, Aguilera said.

Deputies set up a perimeter around the wash area.

“We searched the wash area,” Aguilera said, noting deputies ended up arresting a suspect at gunpoint on the south side of the river wash, near Jakes Way and West Grace Lane.

Within a couple of minutes of the arrest, two other suspects were found and detained nearby, Aguilera said.

“We’re trying to scoop everyone up,” he said, adding he does not for certain if other suspects are involved.

The suspects were described as older teens or young adults.
