UPDATE: Saugus and Stevenson Ranch speed limits to change

Car and truck traffic backs up on San Francisquito Canyon Road near Stator Lane on Wednesday afternoon. One San Francisquito Canyon resident says motorists diverted off Bouquet Canyon Road have created a rush-hour period during mornings and evenings on San Francisquito, one of a handful of routes through the mountains north of the Santa Clarita Valley. Editor’s note: Story has been updated to reflect that San Francisquito Canyon Road is located in Saugus, not Castaic.

Several Santa Clarita Valley speed limits in unincorporated areas are changing after they were approved by the Los Angeles Board of Supervisors on Tuesday.

The purpose of the changes was to support traffic safety and enhance traffic flow, the board agenda said.

Areas in both Saugus and in Stevenson Ranch will see changes to streets.

Requests for these changing traffic regulations are a result of resident and community group requests, or a result of roadway improvements, the county’s board agenda said.

For Saugus, San Francisquito Canyon Road between Stator Lane and north of Mile Marker 15.19 will now be 40 miles per hour.

Kavenagh Lane, in between Mallory Drive and Hemingway Avenue in Stevenson Ranch, will now be 35 miles per hour.

Also on Kavenagh Lane, specifically between Carroll Lane and Hemingway Avenue, will no longer be 35 miles per hour.

Costs for the speed limit changes, including installing new signs and markings, are covered by the 2016-17 Road Fund Budget. There will be no impact to the L.A. County General Fund.
