Ever since the end of last year’s undefeated Foothill League season, West Ranch High boys volleyball wanted to continue its flawless streak.

On Tuesday night, the Wildcats accomplished just that, sweeping Saugus High in three sets at Saugus with scores of 25-21, 25-21 and 25-22.

“League gave us a good run this time and we had to really work for it,” said West Ranch’s Derek Seo. “But in the end, we managed to get it out and we feel pretty good.”

West Ranch won the Foothill League title outright last Thursday against Canyon.

The Centurions (13-9 overall, 7-3 in Foothill League) were energetic on their senior night and kept every game close, thanks to some strong serving.

“We had to constantly call out what kind of serve it was, which seams we’re going to cover and we had to communicate well because the balls would curve and we just tried our best to get a good pass,” Seo said.

But Saugus’ serving fizzled out as the end of Game 3 approached. Multiple serving errors made the game ripe for the Wildcats’ picking.

“It’s unfortunate because I think if they served it in, they could’ve been going to four,” said Cats coach Nathan Sparks.

Seo led West Ranch (21-8, 10-0) in kills with 11. Connor Bertolett led in digs with eight. Michael Flores had 10 kills and four digs.

“I know I’m going to have to pick it up for playoffs if we’re going to go as far as we can,” Flores said. “I’m just going to try and rest a little bit and then come and give everything I can.”

Saugus tied for second in the Foothill League with Valencia.

“(The mindset) is always the same,” said Cents coach Barry Nua. “Play better than we played before the last time we were on the court. That’s it.”

Valencia 3, Canyon 0

Game scores were 25-19, 25-12 and 26-14.

The Vikings’ Cameron Williams had 12 kills, while Dylan Brown added 10. Jon Yamasaki had six aces.

Valencia finished the season 13-9 overall and 7-3 in league. Canyon was 5-18 and 2-8.
