The Sulphur Springs Union School District Governing Board is expected to approve several partnerships between its school sites and the Santa Clarita Valley Performing Arts Center during its meeting Wednesday.

The Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center (PAC) K-12 Arts Education Outreach Program exposes children in the Santa Clarita Valley to the visual and performing arts at an early age, while collaborating with local educators to develop enhanced arts education programs.

During the 2017-18 schoolyear, four schools within the Sulphur Springs Union School District will participate in a “Wali Dad” assembly presented by the Santa Clarita Shakespeare Festival.

The assemblies at Canyon Springs Community School, Fair Oaks Ranch Community School, Mint Canyon Community School and Mitchell Community School will be supported by a city of Santa Clarita grant for Title One schools.

Another partnership with the PAC K-12 Art Education Outreach program will bring UniverSOUL Hip Hop residencies to sixth grade students at Title One sites.

Funded by a Title One grant, students will learn the history of the dance, create their own dance and build collaboration, communication, critical thinking and creative thinking skills.

Sixth grade students at Leona Cox Community School and Mitchell Community School sixth graders will participate in 11-week residency and present one school assembly.

Students at Canyon Springs Community School, Fair Oaks Ranch Community School, Mint Canyon Community School and Valley View Community School will participate in an eight-week residency.

Parents of those involved in the program will be invited to watch students perform on the final day of the residencies.

Finally, the K-12 Arts Education Outreach Program will provide a Kennedy Center Partners in Arts Education Program to teachers in the Sulphur Springs Union School District.

The program out of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing arts is designed to assist arts organizations throughout the country to develop or expand educational partnership with their local school systems.

These partnerships provide professional learning in the arts for teachers to increase artistic literacy for young people.

Elementary school teachers in the Castaic Union School District, Newhall School District and Saugus Union School District will also participate in the program.

Governing Board members are also expected to approve transportation fees for students in the district.

According to the agenda, the proposed annual fee schedule will be $250 for one student, $375 for two students and $450 for three or more students.

The proposed semi-annual fee schedule for transportation will be $160 for one student, $225 for two students and $270 for three or more students.
