Golden Valley cheerleading coach Ed Santos died Wednesday afternoon after suffering a stroke at a cheerleading camp on Sunday.

Santos was taken off life support at 9 p.m. on Tuesday at Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage, according to Hart district spokesman Dave Caldwell. The time of death is unknown.

He was 48 years old.

“The Hart school district teachers, administrators and staff have been deeply affected by Ed’s passing,” Caldwell said. “He touched a lot of hearts in this district and it’s a very sad day for us all.”

Santos started in the Hart district in 2001 as a walk-on coach. Since then, he has coached at Canyon, Saugus and finally, Golden Valley.

He suffered the stroke before his team was set to perform at a cheerleading camp in Palm Springs on Sunday.
