Original Story – 2:56 p.m.

Emergency response officials began preparing for the evacuation of homes in Plum Canyon after firefighters were dispatched to a grass fire near those homes.

The fire which burned about a half-acre at the western end of Franks Way near Plum Canyon Elementary School was reported to officials shortly before 2:30 p.m. Friday.

Firefighters were dispatched to the grass fire at 2:32 p.m., a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.

When they arrived at the fire, just north of Plum Canyon Elementary School they reported seeing a small “fire on the hillside, left of the school,” the Fire Department spokesman said.

As a precaution, deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station were dispatched to Franks Way west of Santa Catarina Road, near Plum Canyon Road, to prepare for evacuations, Lt. Rob Hahnlein said.

No evacuations had been carried out as of 3 p.m.
