Emergency response officials began preparing for the evacuation of homes in Plum Canyon after firefighters were dispatched to a grass fire near those homes.

The fire which burned about a half-acre at the western end of Franks Way near Plum Canyon Elementary School was reported to officials shortly before 2:30 p.m. Friday.

Firefighters were dispatched to the grass fire at 2:32 p.m., a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.

When they arrived at the fire, just north of Plum Canyon Elementary School they reported seeing a small “fire on the hillside, left of the school,” the Fire Department spokesman said.

No evacuations had been carried out as of 3 p.m.
