Starting next week, three of Santa Clarita’s parks will be getting shadier.

From Aug. 7 to Sept. 11, the city will temporarily close the play areas and picnic tables in three local parks in order to install new protective shaded areas.

“We want the community to have comfortable access to our city parks throughout the year,” city Communications Manager Carrie Lujan said. “These new shade structures will help keep equipment and children protected from the sun. We thank you for your patience during the playground closures and urge you to take this opportunity to go and explore the dozens of other parks in Santa Clarita.”

In Valencia Summit Park on 26147 McBean Parkway, two new shaded structures will be put in to cover both sides of the play area. The entire play area will be closed in Valencia Summit.

Circle J Ranch Park on 22651 Via Princessa will be getting a new sail extension on the existing shaded structure to cover the swing set. Only a portion of the play area will be closed in this park.

Fair Oaks Park on 17468 Honey Maple St will have changes made to both of its play areas. A portion of the play areas will be closed at Fair Oaks Park.

On one, a new sail extension on the existing shaded structure will cover the swing set. For the other, the shaded structure will be replaced with a larger one to cover all the play equipment.

The shaded structure that is currently at Fair Oaks will be relocated to Valencia Glen Park later in the year.
