Four people were injured in a traffic collision near Acton Thursday morning when two trucks hauling trailers collided, sending one into the ditch on top of a propane tank, sparking a small brush fire.
The crash happened shortly after 8:20 a.m. when two truck trailers northbound on Highway 14 collided near Red Rover Mine Road.
“The call came in as a auto collision involving two SUV’s with trailers,” a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Fire Department told The Signal Thursday morning.
One of the vehicles was reported to have left the highway and plunge down an embankment.
Responding firefighters requested at least one ambulance.
“They (firefighters) reported finding fire under the trailer and a propane tank on the trailer,” the Fire Department spokesman said.
Officers with the California Highway Patrol shut down the freeway.
One of the vehicles, the one down the embankment, was described as a “burned” Jeep Cherokee hauling a 20-foot travel trailer.
Firefighters extinguish the resulting brush fire near the overturned vehicle, leaving the scene at 9:30 a.m.
Lanes remained closed until just before 9 a.m. At 9:20 a.m., all lanes were open.
Caltrans crews were called in to clean up road debris caused by the fire and the crash.
