Local deputies carried out their fourth nighttime “suppression patrol” in the Santa Clarita Valley Sunday, which resulted in three arrests and two citations.

This nighttime burglary suppression operation included detectives and patrol deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“This is the fourth operation that they have carried out this year in response to window smash commercial burglaries,” said Shirley Miller, spokeswoman for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

As a result of the targeted patrol operation, four arrests were made throughout the Santa Clarita Valley, according to Miller.

One man was arrested for possession of a loaded and concealed firearm in a vehicle, and another man was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, or Heroin.  A third man was arrested for driving with a suspended license.

The suppression patrol also resulted in two citations for misdemeanor warrants.  One man was cited for a $25,000 misdemeanor warrant out of Kern County and another man was cited for a $50,000 misdemeanor warrant.

Capt. Robert Lewis initiated the suppression patrols after taking the captains position about six months ago.  The first suppression patrol began in May, which resulted in three arrests.

The patrols continued throughout the summer that netted several arrests, disrupted burglaries in progress and targeted “transient areas” of SCV.

The idea behind the “suppression patrol” strategy was to identify areas showing a higher incidence of crime and then to dispatch a team of patrol deputies to concentrate on those areas.
