School doesn’t officially start for Santa Clarita Valley International until Aug. 22, but newly-named Athletic Director Ken Erenberg is already hard at work.
This summer, he set up the school’s first-ever girls volleyball camp and hatched plans to add boys soccer, girls basketball, track and field and boys volleyball teams to SCVi’s list of squads.
“For me, it’s really about getting the kids at SCVi and the families to buy into my program,” Erenberg said. “Basically to buy what I’m selling, which is we’re going to be very positive and we’ll start to succeed.”
Erenberg joins SCVi after the closure of Albert Einstein Academy, where he served as athletic director for seven years.

Although leaving Einstein was emotional for Erenberg, he’s motivated to push SCVi athletics to the next level.
“Just to make CIF playoffs would be a great milestone for these teams,” he said. “I’m not planning on making any huge moves. … We’re evaluating a lot of this stuff, but a lot of the programs just started. So I think we can succeed.”
SCVi currently has flag football, basketball, volleyball, baseball, softball, soccer, equestrian, track and field, cross country and golf teams.
Erenberg has experience with all of the above sports except for equestrian, which he said he’s excited to see SCVi athletes compete in.
He’s the co-founder of the Santa Clarita Athletic Independent League and is a league coordinator for the CIF-Southern Section Omega League, which Einstein and SCVi were both a part of prior to Einstein’s closure.
Remaining in the Omega League and SCVi’s eagerness to have him as part of their program has made Erenberg’s transition easier.
“They definitely welcomed me,” Erenberg said. “They’re ready as a school to take that next step, and I’m happy to play a part in that. It’s kind of fun.”
