Two men injured in a head-on crash on San Francisquito Canyon Road last Wednesday were reported to be improving Tuesday, with one released from the hospital and the other listed as a patient in good condition.

Brian Zimmerman, 37, of Green Valley, was discharged from the Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital, hospital spokesman Patrick Moody told The Signal Tuesday morning.

The other man injured in the crash, Carlos Ballardo, 28, of Lancaster, saw his medical condition improve from fair to good condition Monday, Moody said.

Both men were injured in a head-on crash on San Francisquito Canyon Road Wednesday, after one of the men allegedly passed six “slow” vehicles at 80 miles an hour, according to investigators with the California Highway Patrol shortly after the crash.

About 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, Ballardo was traveling northbound in the northbound lane of San Francisquito Canyon Road at about 80 miles an hour as he approached a westerly blind curve in the roadway, according to news release issued by CHP Officer Josh Greengard.

The second motorist, Zimmerman, was traveling southbound in the southbound lane on San Francisquito Canyon Road in a 2013 Hyundai Elanta near the same location at approximately 50 miles an hour.

Ballardo “moved his 2007 Chevy Cobalt, from the northbound lane into the southbound lane across double solid yellow lines in order to pass slower traffic traveling northbound,” the CHP report said.

Anyone with information regarding this collision is asked to call the Newhall Area CHP Office at (661) 294-5540.
