Marvel Studios released a new promotional video, hyping audiences up for the film’s premiere. “Tell the world the release of [Eternals] is near! You can catch it exclusively in theaters on Nov 01.” The clip attached offers glimpses at new scenes from what looks like Carnage’s prison break scene, in which he throws officers around with his weapons and tendrils.

Director Edgar Wright’s transition from idiosyncratic indie goofball genius to Hollywood auteur has been as jarring as one of his patented quick cuts. Wright’s relationship to genre is a lot more parodic and disjointed than that of Tarantino or the Coen Brothers. As a result, when Wright stuffs his personal sensibility into a Hollywood suit, the results are either abortive (as when he was replaced on “Ant-Man”) or underwhelming (“Baby Driver” was no “Shaun of the Dead”).

What is about Eternals?

Director Chloé Zhao on the set of their film eternals. The official synopsis describes the Eternals as “ancient aliens who have been living on Earth in secret for thousands of years.”

“Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, an unexpected tragedy forces them out of the shadows to reunite against mankind’s most ancient enemy, The Deviants,” it reads.

What is the story of Marvel Eternals?

Not true here! The story of Eternals exists alongside the history (the prehistory, technically) and events of the previous MCU films. In a nutshell:

The Eternals are a group of ten immortals who were sent to Earth 7,000 years ago by an immense, all-powerful being — a Celestial, in Marvel parlance — called Arishem. They are tasked with protecting Earth — but only from one very specific enemy, a race of giant dogs/small dragons called Deviants, whose flesh is composed of greyish ropes that give them the look of cornhusk dolls from Hell. (They … do look kind of goofy, it has to be said.)

At first, the Eternals walked among humans, imparting their wisdom and offering protection via the unique abilities divided among them, including laser-eyes, super-speed, energy-fists, magic swords, mind-control, finger-rays, illusion, matter-transformation, healing, and uh … engineering. (It’s better if you don’t question things at this early stage; just roll with it for now.)

Thousands of years ago, when the Deviants were finally destroyed, the Eternals expected to be summoned home. They weren’t. So for much of human history, they’ve attempted to go underground, and contented themselves to watch as we puny humans descend into war and greed and hatred and not curbing our dogs or re-racking our dumbbells, etc. Some Eternals became disgusted by humanity’s endless, cyclical penchant for destruction, others admired our resourcefulness. All of them, however, grew weary of their mission, and of us, and of each other; most have retreated from any interaction for centuries at a time. And all the while, they’ve held to their oath not to intervene in human history, lest we, their charges, grow dependent on them, and stop evolving.

That’s the setup. Note how completely divorced that whole ennui-of-immortality theme is from issues like where the glowing MacGuffin-du-jour might be found, or how a dimensional portal filled with space-eels might open up, or whatever the hell the Quantumverse might be. Familiar heroes get name checked, yes, as do events like the Snapture (which MCU characters continue to refer to as the Blip, because they are unimaginative and super basic). But mostly, the movie cordons off its characters and leaves them to deal with their interfamilial squabbles..

What is the new Eternals release date?

When it was first announced, Marvel’s Eternals was set to land in cinemas on November 6, 2020 making it the second movie in Phase 4. But given the huge delays, Marvel’s Eternals was pushed back to November 5, 2021.

Where is the Eternals streaming?

The movie will be released in cinemas. Given Shang-Chi’s success and Disney’s seeming pullback from its day and date releases, it’s unlikely Eternals will come out on Disney+ until well after its likely-exclusive cinematic run.

Eternals’ run-time is 2 hours and 37 minutes

Marvel Studios’ Eternals | Final Trailer | Marvel Entertainment

As Marvel Studios prepares for its sweeping return to the big screen with Eternals, the latest promo for the film makes it explicitly clear that the movie is set firmly within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Eternal Kingo dismisses Thor and Spider-Man to be considered among Earth’s Mightiest Heroes as the group prepares for a renewed showdown against the Deviants.

Who Are Marvel’s ‘Eternals’ Cast Members?

Introduced in 1976, the Jack Kirby comic introduces three different groups that were created by celestial Gods: the Deviants (a group that was constantly at war), humans, and the immortal Eternals of which there are more than 30. Over the years, there have been several iterations of the group.

  • Gemma Chan as Sersi:
  • An empathetic Eternal with a strong connection to humans and the Earth, who can manipulate inanimate matter. Sersi has been in love with Ikaris for centuries and has a strong connection with Sprite. She poses as a museum curator on Earth while dating Dane Whitman.[7 [8  Producer Kevin Feige described Sersi as the lead of the film.[9  Director Chloé Zhao said she and Chan were interested in creating “a nuanced female superhero that is rarely seen in this genre”. Zhao added that Chan “brought a beautiful sense of gentleness, compassion and vulnerability” to the character that would “invite viewers to rethink what it means to be heroic”.[7  Chan called Sersi “grounded… [and  a little bit of a free spirit”.[10  Chan previously portrayed Minn-Erva in the MCU film Captain Marvel (2019).[11
  • Richard Madden as Ikaris:
  • One of the most powerful Eternals who can fly and project cosmic energy beams from his eyes. Speaking to the relationship between Ikaris and Sersi, Madden said that they have “a deep level of romance”,[10  and “are two opposing sides of how they connect with the world”, since Sersi has compassion for humans while Ikaris is more disconnected given the Eternals’ long life span.[8  Madden worked to find a way to portray Ikaris in a way that he would not come across as “bored of everything”.[10
  • Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo:
  • An Eternal who can project cosmic energy projectiles from his hands. Enamored with fame, Kingo becomes a popular Bollywood film star to blend in on Earth.[8 [12  Nanjiani wanted his performance to combine the wisecracking attitude of John McClane from the Die Hard film series with the look of Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan.[13  He studied Errol Flynn films and some of the original Zorro films to prepare for the role. Nanjiani, who is not a dancer, found learning the Bollywood dances challenging.[10
  • Lia McHugh as Sprite: An Eternal who can project life-like illusions. Sprite has the physical appearance of a 12-year-old child, with McHugh calling her an “old soul”.
  • Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos:
  • An Eternal and an intelligent weapons and technology inventor. He is the first superhero to be depicted as gay in an MCU film.
  • Lauren Ridloff as Makkari:
  • An Eternal who possesses the power of super-speed. The character is the first deaf superhero in the MCU.[10  After starting to run more in anticipation of the role, she shifted to muscle building in order to have “the symmetry of somebody who looks like a sprinter”.
  • Barry Keoghan as Druig: An aloof Eternal who can manipulate the minds of others.
  • Don Lee as Gilgamesh: The strongest Eternal, with a deep connection to Thena. Lee pursued the role in order to be an inspiration to the younger generation as the first Korean superhero, and was able to utilize his boxing training for the role.
  • Harish Patel as Karun: Kingo’s manager.
  • Kit Harington as Dane Whitman: A human who works at the Natural History Museum in London and is dating Sersi.
  • Salma Hayek as Ajak:
  • The wise and spiritual leader of the Eternals, who has the ability to heal and is the “bridge” between the Eternals and the Celestials.[10  Changing the character from a man in the comics allowed Hayek to lean into Ajak’s femininity and make her the “mother figure” of the Eternals. Hayek was initially hesitant to work with Marvel, assuming she would have a supporting or “grandmother” role.
  • Angelina Jolie as Thena: An elite warrior Eternal who can form any weapon out of cosmic energy, and develops a close bond with Gilgamesh over the centuries. Jolie trained with various swords, spears, and staffs for the role, as well as taking ballet.
  • Additionally, Haaz Sleiman portrays an architect who is Phastos’ husband, and Ozer Ercan plays a smuggler. David Kaye voices the Celestial Arishem the Judge. Gil Birmingham, Jashaun St. John, and Zain Al Rafeea have been cast in undisclosed roles. The Deviant general Kro will also appear in the film, as will the Celestial Nezarr the Calculator. Harry Styles appears as Eros / Starfox in a post-credits scene.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said at 2019’s San Diego Comic-Con that the group of immortals has been on Earth for 35,000 years, among the MCU. At some point, however, that changed because the new film places the Eternals on Earth 7,000 years ago.

The movie also made a couple of other changes. Many of the characters, for instance, were gender-swapped from their original versions.

In the comics, since they were all cut from the same cloth, the majority of the Eternals all have similar superhuman abilities, including super strength and the ability to fly. In the film, that’s not the case. Their shared cosmic energy has manifested as different powers in each Eternal.

From Richard Madden to Angelina Jolie, keep reading to meet the cast and see who they will be playing.

Eternals Review: Many fans of director Chloé Zhao’s intimate, personal films — such as the powerful “The Rider” and last year’s best-picture Oscar winner “Nomadland” — were perplexed it was announced that she would be directing the $200 million “Eternals” for Marvel. And they’ll still be baffled after watching the movie, a disappointing, wearying mash-up of superhero tropes.

The Eternals are an ancient race of superhumans created eons ago by the Celestials to protect Earth against the monsters known as The Deviants. And, yes, they live in the same Marvel Cinematic Universe as the Avengers as the latter are referenced (and, yes, stick through the end credits for the usual Marvel teasers).

That the Eternals span generations allows Zhao, who wrote the script with Patrick Burleagh and Ryan Firpo, to recreate ancient worlds and “Eternals,” opening Nov. 5 throughout Houston, positively shimmers. Zhao’s films always are shot beautifully and “Eternals” is no exception.

The problem is with the people. There are so many Eternals — Ikaris (Richard Madden), Sersi (Gemma Chan), Ajak (Salma Hayek), Thena (Angelina Jolie), Phastos (Bryan Tyree Henry), Kingo (Kumail Nanjiani), Druig (Barry Keoghan), Gilgamesh (Don Lee), Makkari (Lauren Ridloff)and Sprite (Lia McHugh) — that most are little more than cardboard character sketches battling CGI-created monsters for 2.5 hours. Even much of the humor and interpersonal camaraderie among the Eternals, at which the best of these movies pull off, fall flat.

The movie hints at something deeper when a couple of them are conflicted by real-world issues — Phastos having to leave behind his husband Ben (Haaz Sleiman) and son to rejoin the Eternals; Thena’s crumbling mental health due to her especially advanced age — but all of that has to be put on the back seat for not particularly inspired action.

“Eternals” makes history as the most diverse superhero movie in terms of race, gender, orientation, age and abilities (Ridloff is deaf) and that’s remarkable in terms of representation. But that doesn’t change the fact that they’re stuck in a story that’s dull and predictable.

At the time of writing, Eternals holds a 72% critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes from 120 reviews, with the audience score reaching 94%. This supports the critics’ consensus that the film “shows flashes of Edgar Wright at his most stylish and ambitious.” Echoing this sentiment, the film’s ability to provide a seamless and entertaining reliving of the 1960s is generally praised. Despite noticeable traces of influences from familiar narratives and other filmmakers, Wright’s work still manages to feel refreshing. In fact, some critics see Eternals as the template the next generation of storytellers will follow as they share their own alluring yet dangerous takes on the genre, attracting and haunting new audiences along the way. In addition, the excellent performance of McKenzie and Taylor-Joy provides another layer to this Giallo-inspired story. Here are some of the positive Eternals reviews:

The Wrap: Much like his mentor, Quentin Tarantino, who gets a thanks in the closing credits but to whom the excellent soundtrack choices also owe a huge debt, Wright creates a faithful yet playful homage to a lost and legendary Swinging ’60s London that is hard to find these days but whose spirit remains vibrantly alive in movies, documentaries, photos, stories, a few buildings and, of course, hundreds of songs.

IGN Southeast Asia: Eternals has more than enough momentum and visual flair to ensure that even its most familiar moments are never boring.

The Guardian: For all its perky retro-chic and caffeinated histrionics, Eternals carries an in-built note of poignancy in that it arrives at a time when the cherished 60s poster children – those cocksure angels of the future – are beginning to slip one-by-one off the map.

Empire: Wright’s ambition has always been his most commendable asset, and here, with his back turned to the buddy comedies of his past, is where it burns brightest, bringing a propulsive energy to this uncharted new territory. Last Night In Soho is indeed a departure for the filmmaker, but one that could pave the way for even more compelling, risk-taking work to come.

Metro:The much-hyped movie and its exciting cast had a lot to live up to, but largely delivered on what was promised.

Furthermore, for a film that seeks to expound on pressing issues, such as the correlation between misogyny and mental health, it barely scratches the surface and offers little to no deepening or education to the viewers. Here are more of the negative Eternals reviews:

NPR: Edgar Wright set out to make a trippy fever-dream of a movie. Eternals, the film he has made instead, is merely febrile: insistent, overworked, maddeningly repetitive and — like the most intense fevers — by turns sweaty and chilly, and keenly unpleasant to experience.

EW: Soho is one hell of a half of a movie: a wildly styled neon reverie whose spooky bedazzlement only crashes to earth when it succumbs to bog-standard horror in the final act.

Vanity Fair: It’s unclear if Eternals is supposed to be a campy homage to past horror—with its Eyes of Laura Mars visions and Suspiria swirls—or if it’s meant as sobering social critique. Maybe it’s both? Either way, little of it works.

Roger Ebert: Wright doesn’t have anything to say about the sex industry, the casting couch or mental health beyond a surface-level understanding. Instead, he relies on cornball humor, copious blood and gore, and homages to far better films. Normally that’d be enough, and it has been in the past, but the tonality doesn’t quite square with the film’s heavy subjects this time.

Eternals has been one of the most talked-about films of 2021, being a standout horror among a flurry of superhero entries. Since the film is considered as one of Wright’s best works, the director’s fans will surely appreciate this masterpiece, no matter how mixed the critic reviews are. After all, Eternals still ignites curiosity and conversation, allowing the public to form their own opinion.

In the comics she has been a principal villain on numerous occasions joining forces with him for the Maximum Carnage storyline which is saying something considering how popular they were in that conflict! What kind of abilities does this mean a girl possesses? Sound can be her weapons or shields; it also acts like flight so no need to worry about running away from anything if you get into trouble.

‘Tis the season for thriller and psychological horror movies, and the latest film from director Edgar Wright promises not to disappoint. Eternals follows the story of an aspiring fashion designer who is able to go back in time to the 1960s where she meets an up-and-coming singer, but the film teases a darkness below the surface of all the glamour.

Eternals stars Anya-Taylor Joy, with Thomasin McKenzie, Matt Smith, Aimee Cassettari, Rita Tushingham, and Colin Mace. The title of the film gets its name from a 1960s British beat band, and though Soho is often thought of as an area in Manhattan, the Soho in the movie is actually referring to an entertainment district in the West End of London known for its fashionable patrons at the time.

The movie is set to release in theaters on October 29, 2021, but will it also be available to stream on HBO Max? Because Eternals was produced by Focus Features and will be distributed by Universal, the movie does not have a connection to HBO Max, which primarily streams new releases from Warner Bros.

How to Watch Eternals Streaming Anywhere

Eternals is being released all over planet Earth, but it’ll only be available to stream outside of the US after its standard theatrical window.

So, international audiences will need to flock to theatres to see Eternals (where it’s Covid-safe, of course). UK and Canadian viewers can watch it from Friday, October 22, the same day as in America.

Sadly Australians will have to wait until December 2 to be awed by giant sandworms at the cinema, because ongoing lockdowns have pushed back a number of film releases in that part of the world.

And its uncertain currently whether Eternals will be procured by any of the major VOD platforms in these territories. But many past 2021 Warner Brothers movies released on HBO Max – The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It for example – have been made available to rent internationally as premium video on demand (PVOD) titles, on services like Amazon Prime Video, Apple iTunes, and Google Play Store.

So, while we can’t say for certain, it’ll be worth checking these websites to see if that holds true for epic sci-fi blockbuster Eternals.

As far as is known Eternals spoilers ending

The twist ending probably won’t surprise many viewers. Ellie learns that the dead body of Sandie that she sees is actually the spirit of her after many experiences of abuse.

Sandie is still alive, and she is actually Ellie’s landlord, this detail is practically picked up from the beginning. This also explains how Sandie has murdered all of her past abusers and explains why Ellie is being haunted by the male ghosts. Sandie’s main abuser was thought to be an old man that was following Ellie around. However, he is actually a police officer that tried to warn Sandie, meaning her actual abuser was dead.

The final twist of the film seems to make no sense in the plot and what is even more confusing, is that it doesn’t seem to symbolise much either. Sandie tries to kill Ellie, just like she killed the men that abused her. She tries to murder Ellie and her boyfriend multiple times but then suddenly changes her mind. The viewer is then presented with the male ghosts who are asking Ellie to kill Sandie and the final scene begins to conclude.

Eternals: Ending Explained!

Angelina Jolie’s Thena will suffer from a disturbing form of dementia in Eternals – and here’s everything you need to know about “Mahd Wy’ry.” Excitement is building for Eternals, the latest MCU blockbuster that will introduce a group of ancient aliens who have been protecting Earth for 7,000 years. The Eternals were sent to this world by the Celestials in order to protect humanity from the threat of the Deviants, and their actions inspired many of humanity’s myths and legends.

Speaking at a set visit in January 2020, Marvel Studios producer Nate Moore revealed the secrets of every member of the Eternals. He spoke at particular length about Angelina Jolie’s Thena, who Marvel considers the best warrior in the galaxy, and who possesses the ability to use cosmic energy to create any weapon she can imagine. Unfortunately, as powerful as Thena may be, she also suffers from what Marvel compares to a form of dementia. “She comes down with something called Mahd Wy’ry,” Moore explained. “If you guys are fans of comics Mahd Wy’ry is something that can beset an Eternal. It’s a version of dementia. Because of the amount of memories they have, they become unstuck in their own mind, so she starts to forget exactly when she is, so through the course of the movie, Gilgamesh becomes her protector. And when we find them in the modern-day, they’re living off the grid in a cabin in Australia because she’s too dangerous to have around humans.”

As Moore suggests, Mahd Wy’ry is indeed a part of Eternals lore in the comics. It was first mentioned in Avengers #361 when Sersi, the only Eternal ever to join the Avengers, began acting unpredictably; she even launched an insane attack upon her teammates, forcing them to sedate her. The Eternals eventually arrived, and explained they believed Sersi was suffering from Mahd Wy’ry, “the secret curse of the Eternals.” In the comics, although the Eternals had their bodies transformed, their minds remained all too human. “How much experience could a being absorb,” Ikaris asked. “How much living before the weight of years proved too much and crushed the soul? How long before the mind wearies of living and can do it no more?” While the origin of the Eternals has changed for the MCU, they were still created by the Celestials, and presumably share the flaw of Mahd Wy’ry.

Don Lee as Gilgamesh and Angelina Jolie as Thena in Eternals

In the comics, the only cure for an Eternal suffering from Mahd Wy’ry is molecular discorporation – to kill them so the Eternal Machine begins their life again. There’s currently been no indication the Eternal Machine exists in the MCU, meaning these Eternals may not be capable of death and resurrection; if that is indeed the case, then Thena’s condition is essentially incurable. She will grow increasingly dislocated in time, unable to differentiate between friend and foe.

An Eternal can manage their decline, however, by establishing a psychic link with a person who serves as their Gann Josin – their sworn protector and soulmate. In the comics, Ikaris created such a bond between Sersi and the Black Knight – albeit without Dane Whitman really understandin what it meant. But more traditionally, an Eternal bonds with another of their own kind, and it sounds as though Thena and Gilgamesh may well have established just such a bond. No doubt Gilgamesh will find it difficult to keep the greatest warrior in the galaxy in check, let alone help her return to action when the Eternals step out of the shadows once again.
