The public is invited to celebrate youth animation by attending “Kid Vid Fest,” a festival taking place on International Animation Day, Saturday, October 28, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at The MAIN, located at 24266 Main Street in Newhall. Come enjoy animated films created by kids from around the world and learn about filmmaking programs for youth in the Greater Los Angeles Area.

This free, fun event is perfect for the entire family and is a great way to celebrate ARTober, Santa Clarita’s month long celebration of the arts. Kid Vid Fest sponsors, Five Nations (published by Tumble Creek Press) and the Kindness Academy of Pennies of Time, will be distributing giveaways throughout the event, such as t-shirts, posters, trading cards and books.

Participating organizations whose student work will be featured include: Inner-City Arts, Calibraska Arts Initiative, Spotlight On Hope Film Camp (SCV-based Think Ten Media Group’s free film camp for pediatric cancer patients and their siblings), Venice Arts, Floating Space Workshop, Camp Reel Stories, ANÍMATE, ASIFA-Central and ASIFA-South.

Kid Vid Fest Co-Founder and SCV-Based Filmmaker and Teaching Artist, Jennifer Fischer, will emcee the event along with Nadine Promes, a Venezuelan artist, animator and storyteller.

“I’m so thankful to Kid Vid Fest for providing a platform to screen culminated student work from the Inner-City Arts Institutes and the Calibraska Arts Initiative,” stated Erica Larsen-Dockray, Co-Founder of SCV Adventure Play and occasional adjunct faculty at her alma mater, California Institute of the Arts (CalArts). “It is so great to have the opportunity to show finished pieces as well as animation exercises which really honor the students’ processes of learning.”

The Santa Clarita Kid Vid Fest event will also be the launch of Kid Vid Fest’s Instagram campaign, which will showcase children’s animation all year round on Instagram. Short animation projects by youth shared on Instagram with the hashtag #kidvidfest will have the chance to be featured on the Kid Vid Fest account as well as at an upcoming Kid Vid Fest event.
