A Canoga Park man was arrested locally Sunday on an arrest warrant issued in Compton for suspicion of aiding, abetting and engaging in a speed contest, a lieutenant with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station said.

“This was a warrant out of Compton Court,” said Lt. Brenda Cambra, who oversees the station’s Detective Section.

Brian Escobedo, 22, was arrested by deputies Sunday at 6:41 p.m. on the warrant. The arrest report listed him as violating a section of California’s Vehicle Code that addresses “exhibition of speed.”

The misdemeanor offense is defined as “the act of accelerating or driving a vehicle at a dangerous speed, in order to show off or make an impression on someone else. … Unlike ordinary vehicular speeding.”

A check with court records reveals Sunday’s arrest marks the fourth time since November that Escobedo has been arrested.

Bail for Escobedo was set at $30,000.
