A heartbreaking development was revealed today in the case of the little girl struck and killed by a car Monday.

Ana Karen Galvan, of Newhall, died on her 9th birthday.

The girl’s identity was disclosed Wednesday by the Los Angeles County Department of Coroner.

“An autopsy is pending,” Coroner spokesman Ed Winter told The Signal Wednesday.

Ana Karen Galvan was born on Oct. 24, 2007.

“She was pronounced dead at the hospital, Henry Mayo, on the 24th of October, at 7:32 p.m.,” Winter said.

The fatal accident happened shortly after 7 p.m. Monday after she stepped into traffic near the intersection of Orchard Village and Wiley Canyon roads in Newhall, Sgt. Brian Hudson of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station said Monday.

A patrol deputy, who was first on the scene, was responding to an unrelated call when he heard the sound of the accident near the intersection, he said.

“He saw a young female laying in the middle of the road, 20 feet from the crosswalk,” he said.

Hudson said the girl had just exited a city bus with a parent before she headed into traffic.

The deputy immediately got out of his car to render CPR to the victim. A passerby also assisted.
