SCCS football advances in 11-man for first time

The Santa Clarita Christian Cardinals went on the road to open the CIF-Southern Section Division 13 postseason, and returned victors.

The Cardinals defeated Sierra Vista of Baldwin Park, 35-10, to secure the first 11-man football playoff victory in school history.

SCCS will host South El Monte in the second round. Time and place are yet to be announced.

Friday, Jacob Moss led the Cardinals with 13 catches for 255 yards, two touchdowns and 10 carries for 51 yards on the ground and a touchdown.

The receiving numbers pushed him over 1,000 yards for the third straight season.

Sierra Vista pulled within 15-10 near the end of the third quarter, but SCCS rattled off 20 straight points in the fourth to advance.

The Cardinals advance to the second round and will host South El Monte, which defeated Rio Hondo Prep 38-23.

SCCS quarterback Tristan Miller went 24-for-31 with 352 yards and two touchdown passes. He also added two rushing touchdowns.

Cardinals running back Seth Yu had 14 carries for 101 yards.
