The American Red Cross is opening at two different locations in Santa Clarita on three days for donors to give blood before the holiday season.

A seasonal decline often occurs from Thanksgiving to New Year’s Day when donors get busy with festivities.

Blood donations are also needed in the weeks leading up to the winter holidays; as it also shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters.

The American Red Cross supplies about 40 percent of the nation’s blood, the nonprofit organization reported.

Individuals who are 17 years of age (16 with parental consent in some states), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood.

Donors can call 800-733-2767  to make an appointment or for more information. You can also download American Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit redcrossblood.org.

All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients.
