A woman was struck and killed by a vehicle Monday night on Sierra Highway in Canyon Country, according to officials with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

The accident was reported at 6:19 p.m. on the 17000 block of Sierra Highway near the Backwoods Inn restaurant, said Sgt. Brian Allen.

The woman was struck by a sedan traveling down the street, he said. However, Allen couldn’t confirm which direction the sedan was traveling or if the victim was trying to cross the street at the time of the incident.

The victim, believed to be an adult, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the sedan remained at the scene.

“The driver is cooperating with investigators,” Allen said.

Allen said an investigation is underway. Drugs and alcohol don’t appear to be a factor at the moment, he said.

No one else was hurt in the accident.
